Sabine is Professor of Medicine, Head of the Laboratory of Molecular Digestive Oncology at KU Leuven and trained as a medical doctor in both gastroenterology and oncology and as a PhD candidate in fundamental studies of tumours. Starting her own lab allowed her to combine both fundamental and clinical research, which she believes is a crucial combination to understand and implement novel treatment strategies.
Sabine’s team captured disease evolution and immune responses in both humans and pre-clinical models with teams in the UK and Spain, and is now confidently transitioning into proof-of-concept neoadjuvant trials and accompanying fundamental and translational research.
